The Local Fabric and Family Portraits

Update on.

The fabric swaying by the window shows us the wind. One day, I suddenly realized this. Fabric is made by extracting fibers from plants, spinning, dyeing, and weaving. Nature becomes fabric and reflects the world. Touching fabric connects us with the world, bringing back distant memories and nostalgic sensations, evoking a sense of tranquility.

Photographer Ito, the organizer of “Ito Photo Studio,” has been capturing family portraits nationwide with a film camera. “Ito Photo Studio” has incorporated the essence of each locality into family photographs. In collaboration with Studio Momen, they used fabrics from the Banshu-ori tradition as photo backgrounds. Grasping the wind with local textiles and capturing the moment’s light on film. The soft light created by the fabric and the gently swaying air brought out the charm and personality of the people in the photos even more.

The atmosphere Ito creates in the studio makes both adults and children smile. Blessed with calm spring weather, the two days were filled with a happy atmosphere from start to finish. It left me with a warm feeling.

They rented a nearby agricultural warehouse and installed 20 curtains, each 3 meters high, divided into 5 layers. The light and breeze entering through the wide shutters transformed the studio into a very comfortable space. By adding depth to the placement of the fabric, no matter which angle you look from, you can see just enough of the various parts of the warehouse’s walls, creating a stage-like structure. Once again, I felt the possibilities of fabric.
